An early morning chase in South Los Angeles turned deadly when an innocent driver was killed after a rented Lexus, driven by burglary suspects fleeing law enforcement, crashed into two vehicles in a horrific accident on Imperial Highway near Broadway. At around 2:30 a.m. earlier today, the Los Angeles Police Department was in hot pursuit of the suspects after a reported burglary in Rancho Palos Verdes when they barreled off the 110 Freeway, ran a red light, and collided with the victims' cars at an alarming speed; one driver died at the scene as reported by the ABC7.
The impact was so violent that it T-boned one car before striking another, a grim tableau the morning sky bore witness to, as evidenced by aerial footage from Sky5. This stark reminder of a family's impending loss just before the holidays was draped with a white canopy, sheltering the stark finality of a life brutally cut short and reminding all those who dare to peer, of the sanctity of human life, such as the fabric of our collective story, the details of which were recounted by KTLA. The ill-fated victim, whose identity has yet to be released, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the second vehicle sustained only minor injuries and spoke with KTLA after the crash, surprised at the rapid arrival of authorities, thus revealing a fleeting moment of piercing insight: “It’s too soon,” the driver thought. “Whoever it was had to be on a high-speed chase.”
The three suspects in the Lexus, which became a lethal projectile in their desperate bid to evade justice, were eventually taken into custody; this coming at the expense of an innocent life—a sobering consequence of the pursuit, Sgt. Keith Mott with the LAPD lamented. "Unfortunately, we have somebody that was killed because individuals are out doing crimes, and (during) holiday season," he revealed in a statement obtained by ABC7, "a family is going to be without their loved one for Thanksgiving." A SigAlert was issued for the closure of the northbound 110 Freeway Imperial Highway off-ramp.
