The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office took to social media this week with a warning, spotlighting the unofficial kickoff of what they've dubbed "DUI Season." Such a term is a macabre marker of the times, hinged on the revelry that too often tips into recklessness, threatening the very fabric of our communal safety.
"Blackout Wednesday" is not just a colloquialism but a nationwide phenomenon where bars swell with patrons eager to commence their holiday festivities, leaving roads fraught with the gamble of lives in transit. "We would like to remind the community that having a sober ride home is crucial to both your and others safety," as per Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is referred to as “Blackout Wednesday,” which marks the beginning of “DUI Season.” We would like to remind the community that having a sober ride home is crucial to both you, & others safety. Please drink responsibly & stay safe. pic.twitter.com/n948A1L7Tm

Authorities urge the public to plan ahead and to invoke the spirit of the holiday as a mantle of responsibility rather than an excuse for abandonment.
