Houston-area law enforcement put the brakes on an alleged drunk driver earlier this week after a heads-up call from a concerned citizen. According to a Facebook post by Constable Mark Herman's Office, deputies were dispatched to the W Sam Houston Tollway North on December 21, following a tip off about a driver who appeared to be under the influence.
The vigilant eyewitness had been trailing the suspect's vehicle until authorities arrived on the scene. Once located, deputies conducted a traffic stop that led to the identification of the driver, as Mayra Velasquez-Loaiza, who showed clear signs of intoxication. After she underwent a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, it was determined she was indeed intoxicated.
"Mayra Velasquez-Loaiza was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Driving While Intoxicated," Constable Herman stated. The arrest came just days before the holiday season, when vigilance on the roads is particularly heightened due to increased traffic and holiday celebrations.
An intoxication offense in the state can lead to severe consequences, as impaired driving is a critical issue faced by communities. The suspect, Velasquez-Loaiza's bond, was set at a modest $100.00, according to officials from County Court 6.
