A drive-by paintball shooting in Atlanta's Moreland Drive neighborhood has left resident Jennifer Fassinger shaken and community members pleading for traffic safety measures. Fassinger was outside with her six-year-old son decorating their home for Christmas when the paintball attack happened, which was captured by her doorbell camera. "My son found another bin with the lime green splatter, so, at that point, we knew that somebody had driven by and shot a paintball at us," Fassinger to FOX 5 Atlanta. "I was thankful that my Christmas bins were stacked accordingly to keep my son from being hit from a paintball," she added.
The same neighborhood is also contending with another menacing issue: reckless driving. The residents are concerned as speeding cars frequently turn off from Moreland Avenue onto Moreland Drive. Fassinger described the regular terror of hearing vehicles approach at high speeds. "You can hear them coming, and we are in the middle of them coming. You can hear them coming. You stop and go, ‘Yep here they come,’ and it’s vroom, and it’s trucks cars challenger," Fassinger told Newsbreak. There have already been incidents of property damage with a vehicle hit and even neighbors' mailboxes destroyed.
Neighborhood residents are now calling for city leaders to take action by installing stop signs or speed bumps to prevent a future tragedy. Fassinger expressed a deeply felt concern: "I fear that the only way it’s going to get solved is someone is going to get killed. You have kids crossing the street to get to the bus stop. You have a MARTA bus stop, so people are crossing there," she told FOX 5 Atlanta.
The Atlanta Police Department is urging anyone with information about the paintball attack to come forward.
