As the holiday travel rush gets into full swing, there's some good news for flyers facing the inevitable layover. A study by Upgraded Points has ranked the top U.S. airports for those inconvenient waits between flights, and Austin's own Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) comes in at No. 4, according to Austin Culturemap.

The Texas hub is lauded for its on-time departures and arrivals, with 76 percent and 75 percent, respectively, not to forget the meager average TSA wait time of less than 10 minutes, although the real-time average is currently around 16 minutes. For travelers looking to quickly stretch their legs and grab a bite, AUS doesn't disappoint: "AUS boasts 51 off-site restaurants nearby per 10,000 passengers and an average TSA wait time of just six minutes, ensuring you can leave, dine, and re-enter on time," as per Austin Culturemap.

Moving on from the heart of Texas, other airports shine across the country for layover experiences. California seems to boast the most layover-friendly airports, with San Diego International Airport topping the list despite currently undergoing major construction. San Jose's Norman Y. Mineta International Airport snagged the second spot, while Orange County's John Wayne Airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport rounded out the top five. Notably absent from the accolades was the notoriously congested LAX, which didn't crack the top. John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana made a point with its short arrival delays, and those in a hurry can breathe easy with just 22 gates to navigate through, as reported by Austin Culturemap.
