Austinites, enjoy the warmth while it lasts. You're due for a weather roller coaster this weekend, with a cold front bringing showers and a temperature dip following a stretch of mild midweek conditions. The current forecast courtesy of KVUE details a "mostly sunny and pleasant" Wednesday, with highs touching the 70s. As we cruise into the night, expect the thermostat to drop to a "chilly" 46 degrees.
Thursday will maintain sunny skies, but watch for a breeze to pick up and the possibility of stray showers through Friday afternoon. Despite the chill in the morning, forecasts predict a hefty temperature leap on Friday, nearing the 80-degree mark. KVUE reports on "breezier conditions Thursday and Friday, with gusts up to 25–30 mph." An incoming cold front will switch things up come Saturday morning, delivering chances for rain over to the east and maybe a surprise for the Austin metro too. However, substantial rainfall doesn't seem to be on the charts, with expected totals lingering around.10–.25 inches.
According to KXAN, the latter part of the week could see a "weather whiplash," as sunny days usher in humidity and warmth before the cold snap. A cold front is set to hit Saturday morning alongside "spotty to scattered showers and storms." Predictions indicate rain amounts ranging from a few hundredths to a couple tenths of an inch, particularly along and east of I-35. The rain is slated to clear out by midday, making way for "windy and cooler weather" to tag in.
Next week, however, another bout of rain could be looming. There's "optimism for more widespread rain in the area," per KXAN, suggesting the meteorological mayhem isn't quite done with central Texas. With such inconsistent weather patterns, don't shelve your umbrella just yet; there's more than just a nip in the air on the horizon.
