In a move to streamline the disposal of holiday greenery, the City has joined forces with Republic Services, providing multiple drop-off locations for Christmas tree disposal for the first time in history. According to a recent announcement made on Facebook, these sites include Republic Services on Nichols Lane, the Public Works City Yard on Gothard Street, and community centers on Magnolia St. and Norma Dr.
Those looking to clear out early can swing by these spots at specified times. These will not be open every day the Republic Services location is available 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on the first two Fridays and Saturdays, 12/29, 12/30, and 1/5, 1/6, and the city yard opens weekdays beginning 12/27 until 1/12, barring New Year's Day and the following Tuesday. Edison and Murdy Community Centers will also offer services at the beginning of January. These drops cater to individuals who partake in various celebratory traditions during the season and need to dispose of their trees accordingly.
In addition to the drop-off points, curbside tree pick-up will occur on the normal collection day for one week only but there are some guidelines to follow: all trees must be stripped of lights, tinsel, garland, decorations, and their stands, and be placed next to residential containers before 7:00 a.m. No flocked or artificial trees are to be included, for those it is suggested to either disassemble and place them in the trash cart or schedule a bulk item pickup.
Apartment and condo residents have slightly different instructions – they must put their trees by the dumpster, but not on top or in front of them, between January 8-12, 2024 unless their complex holds over 20 units in which case the free drop-off service or a scheduled bulky item pickup will be the route to go for the latter Republic Services can be contacted for a pickup with a $32 fee attached. For any clarification or additional information regarding Christmas tree disposal, residents are advised to contact Republic Services directly.
