Early Wednesday morning, Cotati Police Department officers were dispatched to a rather unusual scene at Cafe Salsa, following reports of a suspicious character. The emergency call reported a possible break-in attempt, but when officers arrived, they unearthed a scenario far less nefarious, albeit no less bizarre. According to the Cotati Police Department's Facebook page, they found a male subject perched on the establishment's roof, seemingly unresponsive and bent over at the waist. Upon closer inspection, the man was found not to be a daring thief, but rather an individual apparently incapacitated by his own inebriation.
In their attempt to scale the nearly twenty-foot-high rooftop, officers employed some resourceful means. Upon making contact with the individual, they observed signs indicative of severe alcohol intoxication—slurred speech and an inability to walk steadily were among the tell-tale symptoms. As noted by the police department, the man wore the mark of his overindulgence quite visibly, with evidence of urine on his pants. Unable to care for himself, he was subsequently arrested for public intoxication.
The intervention could not be carried out without due consideration for the individual's safety, particularly given the rooftop setting and his intoxicated state. Thus, Cotati Police summoned the assistance of Rancho Adobe Fire. With their expertise in handling such precarious situations, the firefighters securely fastened the subject to a backboard. Their carefully coordinated efforts facilitated the safe descent of the subject from his lofty perch back to solid ground.
Following the extrication from the roof, the man was placed in the capable hands of the Rancho Adobe firefighters, who made the descent effortless. Ensuring no further incidents occurred, the man was safely guided down via ladder and transported to Sonoma County Jail. The Cotati Police Department expressed their gratitude on social media, "Thank you to Rancho Adobe Fire for getting the intoxicated subject safely to the ground".
