The City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture is ramping up for a major cultural showcase, announcing its call for entries for the next ART214 Biennial Juried Exhibition set to hit the scene during the much-buzzed-about Dallas Arts Month in 2024. The event has turned biennial after years as an annual affair, giving artists from the Dallas-Fort Worth area and the greater North Texas region a shot to showcase their talents.
Shifting to a biennial format, ART214 aims to not just spread and showcase local art across the city but to more deeply embed itself into the North Texas cultural quilt. Eligible visual artists, it's time to get your portfolios ready. Consider this your official tap on the shoulder. "Visual artists who live in the Dallas-Fort Worth and Greater North Texas regions are eligible to apply", per the City of Dallas. For the artists ready to put their work on the line, the deadline for submissions is not-so-distant January 8.
The exhibition is a collaboration between five cultural hubs under the wings of the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture. The participating venues include the Latino Cultural Center, the Bath House Cultural Center, the Oak Cliff Cultural Center, Moody Performance Hall, and the South Dallas Cultural Center. They're gearing up to present an array of artworks that promise to leave an impression on Dallas's Arts Month attendees next year.
On top of ART214, the Bath House Cultural Center is also extending an invitation, specifically to Texas artists, to take part in its 29th annual El Corazón exhibition, a heartfelt exploration of the heart's artistic interpretations. Venturing into the sentimental, the exhibition curator and artist Jose Vargas is on the hunt to find works that will not just sit on a wall but will also speak to the viewers' hearts. "We are seeking the participation of Texas artists who work across various media," as per the City of Dallas.
