As the threat of emergencies looms large in the everyday lives of Dallas citizens, city officials are taking proactive steps to equip residents with the skills they need to protect themselves and aid their neighbors. In a focused effort to include Spanish-speaking communities, the City of Dallas Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is now offering free disaster preparedness classes catered specifically to their needs, according to the City of Dallas.
The initiative is a clear nod to the diversity within the city's population and acknowledges the crucial role that all residents play in disaster response. Pre-registration is a must for the courses, although no identification is needed to sign up. Interested folks are encouraged to mark their calendars and sign up before the January 9th deadline for a series of classes geared toward emergency preparedness, basic first aid, fire safety, and light search and rescue operations.
The January CERT course will be conducted in Spanish, a move that clearly understands the importance of inclusive language access in critical information dissemination. The schedule is set for intensive Saturdays starting January 13th, with a realistic disaster exercise wrapping up the final day of the training on January 27th, as per the City of Dallas.
The training hub for this initiative is Dallas Fire-Rescue Training Academy, standing on 5000 Dolphin Road, a facility known for churning out some of the finest first responders in the region.
