Dallas has been recognized by the National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA) as a Digital Inclusion Trailblazer for its steadfast efforts to ensure all citizens can navigate our increasingly digital world. The city has been acknowledged for its proactive measures in supporting communities with access to technology, high-speed internet, and digital literacy, proving it is a cut above in the fight against the digital divide.

The NDIA tagged the city as one of the 2023 Trailblazers, alongside a record number of 47 awardees representing local governments across the United States. In the efforts that saw the end of the pandemic's quarantine measures but not the necessity for robust digital inclusivity, Dallas continued to champion programs aimed at maintaining connectivity for all its residents.

Genesis D. Gavino, the City of Dallas's Chief of Staff and Resilience Officer said, "The City’s work to bridge the digital divide would not be possible without the commitment and engagement of our organizational partners and community members. It’s our honor to receive this recognition as a testament to what we have accomplished together and the work we have ahead of us." This statement underscores the collaborative nature of Dallas’s endeavor to secure digital inclusivity for its citizens, according to a report by the City of Dallas.

NDIA's Executive Director Angela Siefer highlighted the imperative nature of local government involvement, remarking that while nonprofits, libraries, and other organizations are vital, achieving digital equity necessitates a collective effort. She stated, "For everyone to thrive in today’s digital world, we need all hands on deck," looking to the Digital Inclusion Trailblazers as exemplary models for other local governments, per the City of Dallas.

Dallas has earned the Trailblazer status owing to several notable initiatives, such as the launch of the Digital Navigators Program using specific funding and hosting various Digital Equity Open House events. The city has also been hard at work preparing valuable resources like the Dallas Digital Equity Fact Sheet and coordinating participation in national events such as Digital Inclusion Week.

The noted Trailblazer recognition comes on the heels of a year where digital connectivity has proven to be less a luxury and more a necessity, with the NDIA presenting a revised Trailblazer program encompassing current best practices in the hope that local governments nationwide will adopt these inclusive strategies.
