Tragedy struck early Thursday morning when a raging inferno engulfed a single-family home in Boyle Heights, leaving one person dead and two in critical condition. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the incident at 742 S St Louis St after the fire broke out around 4:24 AM, according to an LAFD alert.

The firefighters, facing a fully involved structure, shifted into defensive mode to protect the nearby buildings. As additional task forces arrived, the crew launched an aggressive attack on the flames. In a remarkable 25-minute effort, 54 firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze, "with no damage to the exposures," stated an LAFD update. While searching the building, they found a victim inside and pulled them to safety, though the individual was in critical condition.

The situation took a somber turn when during a thorough search, firefighters found a third patient on the porch, "sadly beyond medical help and determined deceased on scene," as relayed in a subsequent LAFD statement. Two other occupants had exited the home before the LAFD arrived and are currently undergoing evaluation for any possible injuries. LAFD Arson investigators are on the scene conducting a routine investigation into the cause of the fire. The ages and genders of the occupants have not yet been disclosed.

LAFD Captain Adam VanGerpen is reportedly en route to provide further information to the media.
