Last night's routine patrol turned into a harrowing ordeal for Deputy Castaneda and his four-legged partner, causing traffic mayhem along PCH. The deputy and his K9, Danny, were en route to Neptune's Net in response to reports of a suspicious individual when their vehicle collided with a white sedan, resulting in both cars swerving dramatically off course.
The Ventura Sheriff’s Office reported that the patrol car hurtled through the air before hitting the boulders by the sea. Castaneda sustained injuries deemed non-life-threatening, while Danny, a two-year-old Dutch Shepherd, received a minor cut to his face. Both were transported to Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) shortly after the incident unfolded near Deer Creek Road.
The other driver involved was promptly arrested for suspected drunk driving after being medically cleared at VCMC. He is currently on probation for a prior DUI, per official reports. The suspect has been moved to the Main Jail, facing serious charges of felony DUI.
Last night (8:40pm) Deputy Castaneda and his K9 partner “Danny” were responding to a call for service at Neptune’s Net reference a suspicious subject call in the parking lot.
