In a horrific collision in Tomball, Texas, a vehicle was decimated when it crashed into an 18-wheeler, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries, authorities said. The accident occurred on the busy thoroughfare of FM-2978, where it intersects with Hufsmith-Kohrville Road.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez reported that the victim was pronounced dead at the scene after the car they were in had its roof completely sheered off by the 18-wheeler's oversized load. According to ABC13, three other individuals were transported to a hospital, all listed in fair condition.
The 18-wheeler, which appeared to be laden with large steel beams, had an oversized load sign and red flags to mark the extensions. The beams jutted several feet beyond the trailer's flatbed, a sight captured by aerial footage from SkyEye. Whether an escort vehicle was accompanying the truck is yet to be determined.
Following the crash, officials shut down all northbound lanes of FM-2978, causing significant traffic disruptions. Commuters had to seek alternate routes as crews worked at the crash site. Tomball travelers and local residents were advised to stay up-to-date with real-time traffic data, as recommended by ABC13 through their mobile app alerts.
According to a post by the Harris County Sheriff's Office on X, investigations into the incident are ongoing to determine the precise cause of the crash and to decipher the events leading up to the tragic moment when the car met its catastrophic end beneath the heavy load of the 18-wheeler.
