A Texas man from Freer is heading to the big house on drug charges again. Branden Lee Narvaiz, 35, got slapped with a 60-month federal prison sentence on Monday for possessing a lot to distribute cocaine, per an announcement by U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani.

Narvaiz, who had a history with the law for similarly themed offenses, was already on state parole for the same crime when he made the questionable decision to carry on in his old ways. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas, Narvaiz had owned up to his misdeeds, pleading guilty back in September.

The latest saga in Narvaiz's dealings with the law started with a traffic stop gone awry on April 11. After being pulled over for driving on the wrong side, cops found evidence in his car locating cocaine, cash, baggies, and scales. Hit with a federal indictment, he got nabbed by the feds in June, and the authorities found more of the powdered party favor.

At his sentencing, U.S. District Judge David S. Morales laid down the law, giving Narvaiz five years behind bars. Narvaiz admitted to having a stash of more than 500 grams of the coca leaf's finest derivative, according to his plea agreement.

Homeland Security Investigations, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Duval County Sheriff’s Department, and the Starr County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area task force conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Liesel Roscher prosecuted the case. Narvaiz will remain in custody pending transfer to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility.
