In a strategic move to accommodate rapid growth, the Georgetown Independent School District has snagged a nearly 65-acre piece of land. The district, which closed the deal last week, has its sights set on this swath of property for the construction of an elementary and a middle school, a bid to keep pace with the burgeoning student population, according to KXAN

The district has witnessed a significant uptick in enrollment, with more than 1,600 students joining the ranks since 2020, leading to an overall increase of 13.5%. This surge is primarily due to the opening of Williams and Wolf Ranch elementary schools. Situated to the northeast of the intersection at Patriot Way and the 130 Toll Road, just a stone's throw from East View High School, the location taps into a corner of the community where growth is not just projected but palpably on the move, as Georgetown ISD Superintendent Devin Padavil in a statement obtained by KVUE.

"The southeast part of our community continues to grow at a rapid speed and outpace other growing areas of our district," Padavil told KVUE. He emphasized the district's forward-thinking strategy, stating, "We will need new schools in a few years. Securing this property now allows us to strategically plan for schools in an area where people are desiring to live." However, to get shovels in the ground on this newly acquired land, the district needs a thumbs-up from voters in the form of future bond approval, as per KVUE.

The Georgetown ISD currently manages an educational ecosystem consisting of 10 elementary schools, four middle schools, three high schools, and two alternative campuses, as stated in KVUE.
