A cold-blooded killer is on the loose after a man was shot dead in the parking lot of a Northeast Houston tire shop. The shooting occurred at 4922 Lockwood Drive, mere minutes from where community leaders were celebrating the reveal of a new mural at Robert Holiday Park—ironically within earshot of the gunfire. The Houston Police Department has said that the two events appear to be unrelated, as reported by Click2Houston.
Witnesses recount a disturbance escalating fatally when the victim, exiting his vehicle at a tire shop, encountered the suspect, who, police allege, fired from within the sanctity of an SUV, then fled the scene. The victim's body lay next to a truck believed to be his, said Det. Ashley Finlay in an interview obtained by Click2Houston. A man in his fifties, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene as the suspect vanished behind the wheel of a maroon SUV.
The suspect's abandoned vehicle was later found by police a few blocks away, but the perpetrator had already abandoned a ship, intensifying the manhunt. No suspect description has been provided, and the motive remains as elusive as the suspect. Police are combing through nearby surveillance footage in hopes of finding any leads, per details from ABC13.
During the investigation, Det. Finlay appealed to the public's sense of community, especially during this holiday season. "We want people to be vigilant, especially going into the holiday season. Try to be kind to one another and keep the tempers down. You know, just be calm as we go into this season of the holidays," she implored in a statement obtained by Click2Houston. As investigators piece together the tragic puzzle, the gunman remains a ghost in the city—impervious, for now, to the reach of justice.
