Security Guard's Bullet Ends Young Man's Life in Gulf Freeway Shooting

In Houston, at around 7:15 a.m. on Thursday, the piercing sound of gunfire erupted at 10900 Gulf Freeway.

A 24-year-old male, whose name is being withheld pending confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, lay motionless, suffering from a fatal wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.

Details remain scarce, but detectives from the HPD Homicide Division, Sergeant W. Elsbury Jr. and Detective D. Arnold, pieced together initial information about the tragic incident. A security guard, tethered to the business by the duties of his charge, found himself in an altercation resulting in the discharge of his weapon against the man.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office was consulted, and the case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
