A high-speed chase through the streets of northwest Harris County culminated tragically, with one teen dead and three hospitalized after their vehicle crashed amid fleeing from police, authorities said. The fatal pursuit unfolded in the witching hours of Saturday morning when Houston cops spotted what they described as a car packed with youngsters ripping recklessly down the road shortly before 1:00 a.m.
According to ABC13, the incident began near Rankin and Kuykendah, with the driver of the vehicle invoking a high-speed chase after refusing to stop for officers and, even at one point, switching off their headlights, attempting to evade capture. The chase spiraled out of control at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Drive and Bammel North Houston Road, where the fleeing car collided with not one, but two other unsuspecting drivers.
In a statement obtained by Click2Houston, the Houston Police revealed that the crushed carcass of the suspects' vehicle bore the brunt of impact at the scenes' violent conclusion, resulting in the entrapment and subsequent death of one teen at the wreckage site while hurling three others to hospital care. All suspects were reportedly aged between 16 and 17.
"You know it's the holiday season. There is one potential suspect here, who is deceased on the scene, so our prayers do go out to the family members. We don't know exactly what was going on, who was in the car just yet, or why." Chief Chandra Hatcher told ABC13.
One person, who wasn't involved in the chase but crashed with the suspect, was dispatched to hospital in stable condition, another remained at the crash tapestry unharmed.
