Houston police are currently investigating a Sunday morning traffic incident that turned deadly on Airline Drive. A man driving a Chevrolet Impala was pronounced dead at the scene after a collision involving two pickup trucks at approximately 6:30 a.m. near 6600 Airline Drive, authorities have confirmed.
As reported by the Houston Police Department, the crash occurred when Brayan Barrera, 20, driving a white Ford F-150, struck the Impala as it was passing eastbound on East Parker Road. The impact caused the Impala to collide with a black Chevrolet Silverado, which was stopped at a red light. According to the official report, the victims in the Silverado, a 33-year-old male driver and a 37-year-old female passenger, were left unharmed.
The identity of the deceased driver in the Impala is still pending as officials await confirmation from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The Houston Fire Department paramedics declared the driver deceased at the scene, adding a somber note to an otherwise routine Sunday morning.
Barrera has since been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, as he showed signs of impairment after the crash. He is currently facing charges in Harris County Criminal Court #4. The investigation by HPD's Vehicular Crimes Division, led by Sergeant E. Alejandro and Officer J. Leon, is ongoing
