A Houston man has been slammed with a 40-year prison sentence for the sex trafficking of a 15-year-old girl, federal authorities announced. Giovanny Xavier Limon, also known as Ace or Ace One, was convicted on July 31 after a four-day trial, according to a U.S. Attorney's Office statement.
U.S. District Judge David Hittner handed down the sentencing, which will be followed by an additional 10 years of supervised release. During the hearing, the young survivor delivered an impactful statement recounting how she was manipulated and exploited by Limon. “Boy I’ve been waiting for this day,” she said. “To spit on you how you spit on me. My past does not and will not define me or my future, and after today I will not let you be in my shadow no longer. You took my life but I'm still breathing to live another day,” as per the official announcement.
U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani highlighted the cunning strategies employed by traffickers, stating, "Sex traffickers have a PhD in manipulation using their skills to exploit our children and steal their innocence." Hamdani went on to praise the victim's bravery, citing her role in bringing the predator to justice and protecting future potential victims. Acting Special Agent in Charge David Martinez of the FBI Houston Field Office expressed his view on the case, saying, “This case is a sad and angering example of innocence lost at the hands of sex traffickers like Limon who don’t care about anything other than exploiting our children,” hoping that the sentence sends a strong message to traffickers and their victims alike, as per the U.S. Attorney's Office.
During the month of May and June 2022, Limon trafficked the minor, isolating her and taking advantage of her vulnerability. Evidence from the trial showed he forced her into commercial sex, profited from her exploitation, and abused her himself. The jury was presented with hotel records, internet sex ads, and testimony from the sexual assault treatment exam nurse that substantiated these claims. Following the trial, the victim has since revised a tattoo forced upon her by Limon - a crude reminder of her ordeal - into something more meaningful.
The FBI led the investigation through the Human Trafficking Rescue Alliance (HTRA), a collaborative effort involving multiple agencies to combat human trafficking and assist victims. The alliance brings together resources from federal, state, and local law enforcement as well as non-governmental service organizations.
