After over a year-long investigation, the Houston Police have apprehended a suspect connected to a 2022 shooting at an apartment complex, law enforcement officials reported Thursday.

The suspect, Jeffrey Duncan Hendrix, 36, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, related to the incident that left a 23-year-old man wounded. According to the City of Houston News, the shooting took place at 3105 Weslayan Street around 11:45 p.m., on May 21, 2022.

Hendrix's trouble with the law escalated when he was formally charged on December 20, 2023. He was subsequently apprehended on December 27 without further incident, signaling a solid lead for the HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division's ongoing investigation into the shooting.

Sergeant V. Garcia and Detective C. Johnson of the division recounted how HPD patrol officers discovered the victim, who has not been named, suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was promptly rushed by the Houston Fire Department paramedics to Ben Taub General Hospital and luckily, survived.

Investigators pieced together evidence from the scene which ultimately identified Hendrix as the alleged assailant, taking nearly 19 months to close in on the suspect. Hendrix, whose booking photo accompanied the news release, now faces the justice system to answer for the charges laid against him.
