Authorities in Houston are ramping up efforts to crack the case of a young man's murder, reaching out for the public's help to track down a suspect vehicle linked to the shooting. The Houston Police Department has released surveillance video of the deadly shooting of 18-year-old Miguel Chavez at 7800 Airport Boulevard.
The suspect's ride, a maroon pickup truck either of Dodge or Ford make, equipped with bed rails and a grill guard in the front, is central to the investigation. The hunt is still on for the man behind the wheel, who is described as being either white or Hispanic, according to the Houston police.
According to HPD Homicide Division Detectives L. Patterson and N. Henderson, the patrol officers responded to a call at the address around 6:30 p.m. on October 21. Despite the rapid response by the Houston Fire Department paramedics, Chavez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the gritty scene played out near a convenience store located on the 10000 block of Telephone Road, from where Chavez was transported in a personal vehicle to the location on Airport Boulevard. With leads scarce, the police are appealing to anyone with information regarding the unidentified suspect or the pickup truck's whereabouts to come forward.
"Anyone with information on the identity and/or whereabouts of the unknown suspect, the pickup truck, or in this case, anyone is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS," the Houston police stated.
