Houston's market for high-roller homes might have taken a slight dip, but it still showcases some jaw-dropping prices and palatial dwellings, complete with amenities that rival many resorts. According to a Houston Chronicle report, November's priciest pad tops the list at a cool $9 million-plus. Sold in the ritzy neighborhood of River Oaks, the 5,941-square-foot gem features led glass sidelights and iron tracery, a nod to its 1940 construction date, along with modern SubZero kitchen upgrades and landscaped gardens.

The average price for the most expensive homes sold in May slightly dipped to $4.18 million, with the size of the homes on the up, reaching an average of 7,621 square feet. According to a Houston Business Journal article, there was a 15.5% year-over-year decrease in the sales of million-dollar homes in May.

One standout property in May's sales was 3 Longbow Lane, the former home of late oilman Bill Liedtke. With an initial price tag of $9.6 million, the home eventually went for $6.9 million. The residence captures a slice of Texas entrepreneurial and architectural history, having been built for one of the founders of Zapata Petroleum. Bill Liedtke himself was a recognizable figure in the Texas oil game, and his influence extended into the architectural realm, given his choice of O'Neil Ford as the designer.

Geographically, May's luxury home sales were not to be dominated by River Oaks, as per usual, but rather spread across other affluent areas like the Memorial Park zone and Tanglewood, with one surprise entry on Sue Barnett Drive, slightly off the beaten path for Houston's luxury market. The Business Journal highlighted that the absence of River Oaks from the top sales is an unusual shift in the city's high-end real estate trends.
