A tragic turn of events unfolded last Friday night when a 17-year-old driver was arrested after a fatal crash that claimed the life of a woman on the Katy Freeway. Hunter Cameron Villasana is now facing charges of intoxication manslaughter following the incident on the service road of West Interstate Highway 10 around 11:25 p.m., according to authorities.
The Houston Police Department reports that Villasana was driving a black Mercedes GLK350, which failed to effectively maintain its lane, leading the vehicle to not only strike a curb but also a pedestrian resting on the median before colliding with a wall. The details of the crash were outlined in a press release from the City of Houston.
Villasana attempted to flee the crash site but was swiftly detained by onlookers until police arrived. The Houston Fire Department paramedics responded but pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene. Her identity has yet to be released, pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
According to the Houston Police Department's Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant M. Sudduth and Officer S. Bouarar, the driver was later identified and then charged. Villasana's booking photo was circulated alongside the news release. The full account of the accident can be found on the city's official news website.
