A Houston woman has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of her partner during an early morning argument. The incident, which took place at the residence located at 8630 Doris Oak Circle, resulted in the death of a 38-year-old woman, whose identity has not been released pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Portia Phillips, was arrested at the scene after police responded to the shooting call around 1:25 a.m. on Dec. 21. Upon their arrival, officers were met by Phillips who was visibly blood-stained and directed them to a bedroom where the victim was found with a gunshot wound. Detectives M. Perez and J. Escobar of the HPD Homicide Division stated that paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. Furthermore, a firearm was recovered from the location.
According to official statements, Phillips, who told detectives the victim was her wife, became embroiled in an argument that escalated dangerously. At some point, Phillips allegedly pointed the gun at the victim, and the weapon discharged, striking her. Bail information and a court date have not been disclosed yet.
Charges were swiftly filed against Phillips after consultation with the Harris County District Attorney's Office. She is currently facing the charge of murder in the 488th State District Court. The Houston Police Department has attached a booking photo of Phillips to their news release, marking a somber conclusion to the deadly dispute that has rocked the quiet community nestled at Doris Oak Circle.
