A Joshua Tree man, who led authorities on a high-speed pursuit through the Morongo Basin, was arrested after running out of gas, officials said.
Casey Moses, 38, known to be on probation and driving without a license, was attempted to be stopped by deputies near Stagemans Road and Bowman Trail in Landers on December 8, according to a report published by the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department. Disregarding the stop, Moses initiated a chase at around 11:18 a.m., speeding through residential streets with a disregard for public safety. The pursuit lasted over five miles before Moses' vehicle was forced to stop when he ran out of fuel.
The Sheriff's Department said in a statement that after the disabled vehicle came to a halt, Moses led deputies on a foot chase covering some 200 yards. He was eventually detained and found to have two outstanding felony warrants. Moses was booked on his felony warrants and for felony evading a peace officer, as per the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department.
Moses is currently being held at West Valley Detention Center, with bail set at $130,00.01. The Sheriff's Department asks anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Deputy Joshua Merrell at the Morongo Basin Station or to reach out to We-Tip anonymously. “Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may contact We-Tip at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463) or go to wetip.com,” the report stated.
