A high-speed chase through the streets of Wilmington ended in chaos when a suspect in a stolen Hyundai Elantra collided with multiple vehicles, leaving several people seriously injured. The pursuit began on the evening of November 19, when Harbor Division officers spotted the suspicious vehicle on Pacific Coast Highway and attempted to confirm whether it was stolen.
The driver of the Elantra, later confirmed to be a juvenile, made a desperate attempt to flee, careening into a residential area and blasting through stop signs in a bid to evade police. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the chase reached a tragic climax when the suspect ran a red light at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Avalon Boulevard, causing a violent crash involving a Nissan Pathfinder and a Mazda MPV.
The LAPD has confirmed that the Elantra was indeed stolen from Lennox and was carrying multiple juveniles at the time of the incident. The driver was arrested under suspicion of "Felony Evading-Causing Injury," along with another juvenile who was apprehended on several felony warrants, including assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, and minor in possession of a firearm. The investigation is still ongoing.
First responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department were quick to act, transporting the injured to Harbor UCLA Hospital for treatment.
