A tragic hit-and-run incident has claimed the life of a pedestrian in Los Angeles, with the LAPD now on the hunt for the driver responsible. The collision, occurring on December 17th around 2:05 a.m. at the intersection of Western Avenue and Vernon Avenue, ended fatally when the driver, heading north, struck the pedestrian who was inexplicably down on the street. Following the impact, the driver failed to stop, fleeing the scene instead, as reported by LAPD Newsroom.
Officers responded to the scene after a radio call alerted them to the traffic collision. The unidentified pedestrian was transported to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. As seen in a video released by the authorities—which has been edited to remove the moment of impact due to its graphic nature—the suspect's vehicle continued northbound after the collision. The driver is now facing charges of vehicular manslaughter.
In the wake of the incident, the LAPD has issued reminders to the public about road safety. Motorists are being urged to adhere to safe driving speeds and practices, with stern warnings about the severe consequences of speeding and reckless driving. The LAPD stressed the legal obligation for drivers involved in collisions to stop, provide assistance, and wait for emergency services to arrive, according to a Hoodline article.
The law enforcement extends their plea for assistance from anyone who might have information regarding the fatal traffic collision. The LAPD has also provided various channels for anonymous tips to be submitted, in the hope of bringing the responsible party to justice. The public is furthermore reminded to use sidewalks and crosswalks and follow the rules of the road for pedestrian safety, according to information provided by the LAPD Newsroom video.
