Long Beach residents are on high alert as the local police department seeks aid in catching suspects tied to a string of burglaries targeting KnoxBoxes. The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) is scrambling to identify those behind the burglaries after three downtown buildings were hit in the dead of night across a week, with the most recent on Christmas Day.
According to a notice released by LBPD, the perpetrators gained entrance to these secure boxes, which hold building access keys, and subsequently pilfered parcels and posts from the properties' common spaces. Detectives have yet to determine if these events are connected, but the unsettling incidents have spiked concern amongst city dwellers.
Among the advice dispensed by law enforcement is the perennial admonishment to report any peculiar activity immediately to police dispatch or dial 9-1-1 if faced with an emergency.
The department is reminding Long Beach locals to keep living spaces and business premises well-illuminated and discourage leaving packages or mail unattended in inaccessible areas. Warning signs of tampering, especially with Knox Boxes, should prompt an immediate call to the LBPD. The police have issued these tips in their bid to thwart further such intrusions, illustrating an impetus to protect communal grounds and possessions.
