An incident at a Los Angeles bank escalated when a suspect, Forrest Perry, allegedly threatened to shoot the bank manager and later attempted to kick a police officer, the LAPD reported. This confrontation resulted in a "Categorical Use of Force" by the officer involved. According to an official statement from the LAPD Newsroom on December 10th, the event occurred on December 5th at a bank in the 7300 block of North Figueroa Street.
Responding to a radio call, officers encountered the suspect, who was being held by a bank manager, inside the establishment. Without initial resistance, Perry was detained and cuffed. However, the situation quickly turned tense. While investigating, an officer was standing close to the handcuffed suspect when he "suddenly became agitated, and attempted to kick at the officer," leading the officer to quickly respond and subsequently grip the front of Perry's neck, the LAPD news release stated.
The suspect was restrained and, without further incident, was escorted out of the bank. Perry, who did not sustain injuries during the altercation, was charged with Criminal Threats and processed at the Northeast Station. The LAPD confirmed that no one else was injured during this confrontation.
To ensure the suspect's well-being, Perry was examined by the Metropolitan Detention Center Dispensary staff and medically cleared before booking. The Force Investigation Division (FID) of the LAPD has since responded to and is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the use of force. This probe continues to look into the events that led up to the police's arrival and Perry's arrest. The LAPD's thorough approach to the investigation is meant to ascertain the full context of the incident, including the categorical use of force.
