The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is warning beachgoers to think twice before diving into the waters at several popular beaches due to elevated bacterial levels. Health officials have advised against swimming, surfing, or playing in the ocean near certain areas that have tested high for bacteria.
Among the impacted spots are Malibu Lagoon at Surfrider Beach, Santa Monica Pier, Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey, and Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro. Specifically, advisories have been placed 100 yards up and down the coast from the Surfrider Beach restrooms and the Santa Monica Pier, as well as the entire swim area at both Mothers Beach and Inner Cabrillo Beach. Visitors are advised to stay clear of these specific sections.
As per public health orders, these warnings were prompted by bacterial levels that managed to exceed established health standards during recent tests.
The county's beach closure hotline is on the hook 24 hours a day at 1-800-525-5662. To make sense of the areas affected, a map and further details are available on the official Public Health website.
