A man is fighting for his life following a gunshot altercation in Long Beach’s Willmore neighborhood. The violent incident, which boiled over to gunfire on the night of Thursday, December 7, has left the victim with life-threatening injuries. According to the Long Beach Police Department's blotter, the male victim was found with gunshot wounds to his upper body and listed in critical but stable condition after he was transported to a local hospital.
The confrontation occurred close to midnight, with the police responding to emergency calls at approximately 11:00 p.m. The preliminary reports suggest that the victim was to initially argue with another male when the situation disastrously turned violent as the suspect fired multiple shots. Fleeing the scene of the crime for his very life, the wounded man was able to get as far as the 500 block of West Anaheim Street before help was summoned by a bystander. The shooter escaped before the authorities arrived at the scene, and as of now, the law enforcers have no suspect in custody.
The Long Beach Post reports that it is still unclear what sparked the argument leading up to the shooting. It was at the 1200 block of Chestnut Avenue that the victim sustained multiple shots to the torso in what can only be described as an explosion of violence.
The response of the Long Beach Fire Department was swift. Having arrived soon after the police arrived, they took over the provision of medical assistance from the officers at the scene and rushed the severely injured man to hospital care. While there remains a scarcity of information regarding the gunman, police insist that the search is ongoing to bring the assailant to justice.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the LBPD's Homicide Detail. Meanwhile, Long Beach's Willmore neighborhood is left shaken by the brutality of such an attack occurring amongst its streets, and the community looks on as the police work to uncover details that could lead to an arrest. As the man clings to life in the hospital, many questions remain unanswered, but the pursuit of truth and justice marches forward.
