In a late-night scenario that endangered a child, a Needles resident finds herself behind bars facing multiple charges, including child endangerment and DUI. San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department arrested 48-year-old Chimalma Reyes after a concerning incident on Erin Drive.
Officials were called to the 1900 block of Erin Drive around 11:18 p.m. on December 21, where they discovered Reyes had not only driven under the influence but did so with her juvenile child in the vehicle, in clear defiance of a court order—the addition of a previous assault with a deadly weapon charge complicating her legal situation. The child was subsequently handed over to the care of a relative, after Reyes was taken into custody, according to a press release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
Following the events, Reyes was booked into the Colorado River Station jail, where her bail was set at a steep $120,000.00. She awaits her day in court to face her litany of charges which include willful cruelty to a child, violating a court order, and assault with a deadly weapon.
With Reyes currently detained, authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to step forward. Concerned citizens can contact Deputy C. Mestas at the Colorado River Station, 760-326-9200, and those preferring to provide details anonymously can call the We-Tip Hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME or visit their website for secure tip submission.
