A tragedy struck on a Novato highway last Friday when a 79-year-old man was killed in a violent car crash. The Marin County Sheriff's Office has since identified the victim as Novato resident Ali Safar Navadeh, who met his untimely demise along the southbound stretch of State Highway 101. Navadeh was waiting in his disabled car for help when another vehicle, running at highway speeds, careened into him causing "catastrophic damage" to both cars. The impact was so severe that, on arrival, emergency services found Navadeh in cardiopulmonary arrest, despite receiving CPR from bystanders.
According to a statement from the Marin County Sheriff's Office, Navadeh was pronounced dead at the scene. For reasons unknown, the California Highway Patrol noted that an investigation into the collision is ongoing. It is unclear what led the other driver to veer across the travel lanes and into Navadeh's vehicle. A comprehensive postmortem examination with toxicology testing is expected later this week to determine the precise cause and manner of death, which remain pending the investigations' conclusions.
The Sheriff's Office extended their deepest condolences to Navadeh's family and friends in light of the shocking incident. While the Coroner Division refrained from releasing further information due to the active nature of the investigation, queries regarding the crash have been directed to the California Highway Patrol-Marin Division.
