A pedestrian was struck and killed in an early morning incident on West Mount Houston Road, authorities from the Harris County Sheriff's Office confirmed. Deputies arrived at the scene in the 950 block of the road around 5:30 a.m. to investigate the fatal encounter between a vehicle and a pedestrian.
The initial report by the Sheriff's Office mistakenly identified the victim as a male. However, it was later determined by Lt. Simon Cheng that the deceased was, in fact, a woman. According to Lt. Cheng, the victim was trying to cross a particularly dark section of the road, which was devoid of a crosswalk, when she was hit by a black Dodge Ram pickup.

As reported by ABC13 Eyewitness News, the woman was accompanied by a friend while pushing a shopping cart. Her companion, who had a bike, stayed behind to give information to deputies. The driver involved in the crash did not flee the scene.
The eastbound lanes of West Mount Houston Road were closed, and traffic was subsequently diverted to Bunny Run. Westbound traffic found its way through a nearby parking lot. The Sheriff's post also indicated that Aldine ISD had been notified about potential delays to school-related traffic.
The road was expected to be closed for additional time to conclude the investigation and clear the debris.
