A pedestrian tragically lost their life late Friday night in a hit-and-run incident on Jurupa Valley Street, local authorities say. The collision occurred on December 9, 2023, at approximately 10:51 p.m. on Van Buren Boulevard, just north of 56th Street, when an unknown vehicle struck the victim and then took off, leaving the scene before deputies arrived.
Responding officers from the Jurupa Valley Sheriff's Station discovered the victim lifeless on the road where the incident took place; they were pronounced dead at the scene, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department reported. The identity of the deceased pedestrian is currently withheld until family can be notified. The investigation led by the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team is moving forward in attempts to uncover crucial details that led to this fatal event.
As the authorities handled this grim matter, Van Buren Boulevard underwent a temporary shutdown between 56th Street and Jurupa Road to accommodate the investigation, causing disruption to the late-night flow of traffic. The road was later reopened once the preliminary investigation phase reached fruition.
