In a move to streamline city operations, Richardson has named a big fish as the head of its newly minted Facilities and Fleet Department. Wayne Corum, an old hand with over 17 years in municipal government under his belt, and a background in wrangling commercial fleets, is set to take the reins on December 11, City Manager Don Magner announced. Corum will be charting the course of the new department fashioned in the latest city budgeting dance, per the City of Richardson, Texas.
Before joining hands with the city folks, Corum played the field in the private sector, including a stint with T-Mobile as a Transportation Industry Consultant since 2021 and a gig managing Verizon's colossal commercial fleet. “His expertise in municipal fleet and facilities, coupled with his private sector experience with Fortune 50 companies, align well with the needs of this new department, and we are pleased to be able to bring these qualifications to help serve this community,” Magner said, according to City of Richardson, Texas.
Corum's record shows he's no stranger to government work, having spent a substantial chunk of his career in the city of Fort Worth. Starting as a Senior Management Analyst in the City Manager’s Office, he climbed his way up to director of equipment services. His resume also boasts a temporary leadership role helming the Property Management Department, born out of a merger aiming to consolidate Fleet, Facilities, and Real Property.
Eager to grease the wheels of progress, Corum expressed his enthusiasm, “I look forward to joining the Richardson team and being a part of the critical fleet and facility services provided by the City.” Putting square pegs in square holes, his goal is "to guide resources to effectively manage and maintain these assets, ensuring the community can take pride in the buildings and vehicles that are part of providing services that make a difference to them every day," he stated, as reported by the City of Richardson, Texas.
Corum's expertise and accolades have been recognized before. His leadership saw Fort Worth's fleet being consistently honored among the Top 100 Government Fleets, and in 2012, he snagged the title of Fleet Professional of the Year from the Rocky Mountain Fleet Management Association. With a bachelor's in mathematics and an MBA to his name, Corum's credentials paint a picture of a strategist poised to steer Richardson's facilities and fleet services in a direction that mirrors his previous triumphs.
