Richardson's streets dazzled with the spectacle of its 51st Annual Christmas Parade this weekend, as families camped out along North Coit Road to partake in the yuletide tradition that's half a century in the making. The parade, which swaggered its way from Richardson High School to J.J. Pearce High School featured everything from whimsical floats to boisterous marching bands, encapsulating this year's quirky theme, The Parade of Misfit Toys, according to the City of Richardson, Texas.
Not just an eye candy fest, each parade entry faced scrutiny by judges aiming to honor those who best dressed to impress based around the imaginative theme—an homage to the beloved misfits in our lives, an assortment that included diligent home-spun entries like Richardson Humane Society, St. Joseph Catholic School, and not forgetting a troop of water-splashed Mustang Mermaids. In a show of festive community spirit, the Network of Community Ministries tipped its hat in appreciation, being named the charitable beneficiary of the parade's giving nature.
The parade, grandiosity, and all wasn't just a podium for schools and pets. Specialty Awards were snagged by eclectic groupings such as North Texas Home School Fine Arts and the North Dallas Scooter Meetup, while the spirited Cub Scout Pack 871 and the Adventure Guides Rainbow Hawks marched their way into the hearts of onlookers—and let's not leave out Pioneer Technology Arts Academy Interact Club, which sounds like it sent robots to spread holiday cheer, but we're not confirming that.
A battalion of 50 entries brought the parade to life, counting a robust 1,100 participants who twisted and twirled, marched, and merrily made their way through the heart of Richardson, ensuring that the kickoff to Santa's Village at Huffhines Park was decked with not just boughs of holly but with a vibrant community spirit that could make even the grouchiest Grinch crack a smile.
