A horrific hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a 31-year-old man early Saturday morning at the intersection of Janss Road and Windsor Drive in Thousand Oaks, as reported by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. Authorities were alerted to a disturbance involving a male reportedly running in the roadway and tampering with vehicles. Efforts to save the man's life were in vain, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Thousand Oaks Traffic Bureau rushed to the chaotic site after receiving several calls detailing the erratic behavior of an individual trying to enter moving vehicles; he even jumped in and out of a pickup truck before the callers left, and by the time deputies reached, they found the male lying lifeless. Senior Deputy Marcos Moreno from the Traffic Bureau confirmed the disturbing sequence of events leading to the tragic discovery, yet the suspect remains at large, having fled after the collision.
Investigators collected evidence indicating the unidentified pedestrian suffered a fatal blow from a westbound vehicle on Janss Road, with the driver making a hasty getaway, turning north onto Montgomery Road. The victim's identity is withheld until the next-of-kin has been notified by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Deputy Moreno has urged anyone with pertinent information to come forward and assist in the investigation. As the search for the suspect continues, the authorities are offering up to $1,000 for tips leading to an arrest, and witnesses can report anonymously to Ventura County Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
