The Scoop News Group has crowned San Bernardino County CIO, Lynn Fyhrlund, with the title of County Executive of the Year, in recognition for his transformative work in modernizing county operations. Fyhrlund's strategy focused on implementing advanced IT initiatives that have improved efficiency and security across county services, garnering him this prestigious accolade.
StateScoop's LocalSmart Awards hold the torch for spotlighting outstanding efforts in local government technology annually. The process kicked off in September when nominations were sought, tallying over 200 candidates. The team at StateScoop whittled this to a hundred finalists. Votes by readers between November 6 and December 1 determined the victors. According to a statement obtained by the San Bernardino County's news site, Board of Supervisors Chair Dawn Rowe expressed pride in Fyhrlund's achievement saying, "His contributions have significantly improved the county’s digital experience by boosting security and operational efficiency."
Following a successful tenure of over three years as Milwaukee County's CIO, Fyhrlund joined the San Bernardino team in May 2023. He has taken a proactive approach towards systemic IT upgrades, including the replacement of several outdated systems and the creation of a forward-looking strategic plan for the Innovation and Technology Department (ITD).
Reacting to his new honor, Fyhrlund showed gratitude for the support of his peers and the recognition from StateScoop. "I am extremely honored to be named a County Executive of the Year," Fyhrlund stated, extending his thanks to "StateScoop and its readers along with my colleagues, who I admire and respect for recognizing me in this extraordinary way."
Since its inception in 2019, the LocalSmart Awards, presented by StateScoop, has shined the spotlight on more than 200 individuals and projects that have driven innovation in government technology. The latest round of accolades saw 39 leaders and projects from 16 states, servicing populations ranging from a modest 30,000 to a bustling 3.5 million residents.
