A Santa Ana man's decision to hone his vehicle stunt abilities on a city street last week ended in his arrest after causing nearly $2,000 in damages. The 22-year-old man was performing twist-about maneuvers in his car when he narrowly missed colliding with a police vehicle. The Irvine Police were not amused by the impromptu stunt show and quickly put an end to the man's antics.
The surprise encounter with law enforcement resulted in the driver being subsequently arrested and charged with felony vandalism. According to a post by the Irvine Police Department, "It was game over for the man when we arrested him for felony vandalism."
The cost of the damage inflicted on the road and its markings was estimated to be almost $2,000. His vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 30-day sentence. The police took to social media to share the story, along with a clear message that such behavior will not fly in their city. They stated on their Facebook page, "Irvine PD will not tolerate street racing, sideshows, or reckless driving in Irvine!" emphasizing their no-nonsense approach to traffic law enforcement.
As a part of their online warning, the Irvine Police used a mix of hashtags and pop culture references to attract attention and disseminate their message, including #dontcommitcrimeinirvine and nods to classic video games like Pac-man and Atari.
