A 15-year-old boy is in custody after a shooting that seriously injured a 27-year-old man in Harris County earlier today, according to law enforcement officials.

The shooting took place in the Humble subdivision, near the junction of Treaschwig Road and Mala Way. After being shot, the victim managed to call his parents for help, ABC13 reported. When the parents arrived, the assailant shot at their vehicle however, they were not hit by the gunfire.

Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman confirmed in a Facebook post that the parents didn't sustain any injuries from the shooting. The teen fled the area, prompting a significant search by area law enforcement.

Agencies including Precinct 4, the Harris County Sheriff's Office, and the Humble Police department were part of the response, as captured by ABC13 cameras.

The suspect was later found by deputies hiding between houses in the neighborhood. "After an extensive search, the 15-year-old was taken into custody," Herman said, according to ABC13. He is now in custody as the investigation unfolds. The victim, meanwhile, was transported to a local hospital and is reportedly in critical condition.

Details about what initiated the shooting are still unclear, and officials have not suggested a motive for the violent encounter. The case has been turned over to detectives from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation. Meanwhile, access to the Werrington subdivision was restricted as the authorities continued their investigation on-site.
