The streets of Austin are about to experience a cyber invasion as Tesla rolls out its first batch of the much-hyped Cybertrucks, making a grand entrance with a performance that could shame a sports car. The futuristic beasts were handed over to customers with much fanfare at Tesla's Texas Gigafactory, and if the sticker shock doesn't fry your circuits, the specs just might. Elon Musk, the mastermind with a penchant for the dramatic, personally delivered these electric monstrosities to their new owners during what could only be described as a spectacle of an event.
In a scene that felt like something out of a sci-fi blockbuster, Musk paraded the initial proud Cybertruck connoisseurs to their rides. The Tesla CEO even recreated a stunt from 2019 with Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen tossing a metal ball at the truck's window—which, in a favorable twist of fate, didn't shatter this time around, as reported by the Houston Chronicle.
But let's talk turkey: these bad boys aren't exactly penny-pinchers. Shelling out for the entry-level "Rear-wheel drive" will set backers an estimated $60,990—a far cry from the originally anticipated price tag of $39,000 back in 2019. Want to skip the line? The "All-wheel drive" and "Cyberbeast" editions are going for $79,990 and $99,990, respectively. A piece of the future comes with a hefty price, and Tesla's website indicates that while there may be savings in gas over time and potential federal tax credits for electric vehicles, the upfront cost is as substantial as the truck itself, according to Reforma Austin.
