Texas State's economy continues to shine, with Governor Greg Abbott touting the triumph of Texas' job market. According to the latest employment data, Texas not only leads the nation in job growth over the past year but also hits new historic records in employment metrics. "Texas dominates as America’s jobs engine, again adding more jobs over the last 12 months than any state in the nation," Abbott celebrated in a statement, as reported by the Texas government's official website.
A deep dive into the numbers released by the Texas Workforce Commission and the Bureau of Labor Statistics unravels an upward trajectory that's hard to match. Notably, the Texas labor force has ballooned to its largest size ever, at a groundbreaking 15,192,900. With businesses flourishing across the state, Texas also set a new high watermark for the number of Texans gainfully employed, including those who are self-employed, reaching 14,576,500. In terms of non-farm jobs, Texas saw an additional 26,800 roles filled in November alone, pushing its total job count to an unprecedented 14,094,900, as stated in the Office of the Texas Governor.
The picture painted by these figures is one of consistent momentum, with Texas racking up an impressive 407,100 jobs from November 2022 to November 2023, thus achieving an annual growth rate of 3%, which towers over the national average of 1.8%. Despite the staggering growth, it was Texas' 33 months of uninterrupted job expansion through November that perhaps most clearly underscores the state's economic resilience, as per the Office of the Texas Governor.
It seems that Texas, under the stewardship of Governor Abbott, will continue to herald a message of opportunity and enterprise as the new year approaches. While taking pride in the job market's successes, Abbott assures that "we will continue to work together and safeguard the promise of an even bigger, brighter Texas for generations to come," according to the Office of the Texas Governor.
