A reckless high-speed chase instigated by a 16-year-old driver resulted in injuries to six people, including a toddler, in the Kingwood area, according to the Plum Grove Police Department. The incident on Friday night involved an underage driver, who led police on a harrowing pursuit through northeast Harris County with speeds reportedly reaching up to 110 mph.
After attempting a routine traffic stop of a Chevrolet pickup truck without a tail light, the situation quickly escalated as the teen refused to pull over, igniting a dangerous chase. Fox26 Houston reports that the young driver weaved through FM 2090, continuing onto East River and then south on I-69, perpetuating a perilous situation for everyone on the road.
The pursuit involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Department of Safety and Montgomery County deputies, as they endeavored to intercept the vehicle. According to Click2Houston, the teenager's attempt to evade capture culminated in a collision with a Toyota Tundra in the Kingwood area; the impact led to a secondary accident involving a Chevrolet Equinox, which overturned with four passengers inside, among them a 3-year-old girl.
All the occupants of the Equinox sustained minor injuries and were taken to Kingwood Hospital for treatment. Similar fates befell the two individuals in the Toyota Tundra, who also required medical attention following the crash. Despite the chaos and destruction, the teenage driver and his female passenger miraculously walked away from the wreckage unscathed, even though they were not wearing seat belts during the crash. Inside the adolescent's pickup, law enforcement found two clips and a holster, and they suspect that a pistol was thrown out of the vehicle during the chase.
The 16-year-old is now facing several charges stemming from the pursuit and subsequent crash. The investigation continues as authorities piece together the full scope of the teenager's actions and the resulting turmoil that rippled through the streets of Harris County on that fateful night.
