A quick-thinking robbery victim and swift police action resulted in the arrest of an 18-year-old suspect in Moreno Valley, officials said Wednesday. The suspect, identified as Angel Solis, was taken into custody after allegedly threatening a man at gunpoint for his jewelry.
According to the Riverside Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to a robbery call on Tuesday afternoon in a parking lot off Dracaea Avenue. The victim, upon being confronted with a firearm, was strong-armed by the assailant who then fled in a vehicle. Despite the harrowing ordeal, the victim kept his wits about him, managed to snag a glimpse of the license plate, and informed authorities.
Lieutenant Brandi Swan reported that following an area check, law enforcement spotted the vehicle in the 13600 block of Stockbrook Road. Not far from the car, they found Solis, still in possession of the stolen property. "The suspect was positively identified as Angel Solis, an 18-year-old resident of Moreno Valley," Swan's statement read, which was picked up by local news outlets.
Swan's report detailed the charges piled on the suspect: robbery, possession of a concealed weapon in a vehicle, possession of a loaded firearm, and possession of an unregistered firearm. Solis is now behind bars at the Robert Presley Detention Center, bail set at $30,000.
Authorities are calling for anyone with further information about this incident, or those who might have captured the robbery on video, to reach out to Deputy Sonny Albarado of the Moreno Valley Station at 951-486-6700. The full report can be found here.
