Big bucks are rolling into Dallas for safer streets, and local leaders are hitting the ground running, celebrating the hefty $21.8 million Safe Streets for All Grant. At the helm of this windfall, U.S. Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, is set to present the check at Dallas' historic Forest Theater. This cash influx, aimed at addressing southern Dallas' dangerous roads, spotlights the City's commitment to reducing its troublesome crash rates and boosting pedestrian safety, as laid out in its Vision Zero Plan, according to the City of Dallas.
Joined by Assistant City Manager Majed Al-Ghafry and Council Members Omar Narvaez and Adam Bazaldua of Districts 6 and 7, respectively, Crockett will lead Friday's festivities. Waving the banner high for safety, these officials are part of a broader coalition that includes the North Central Texas Council of Governments, St. Phillips School and Community Center, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, the Federal Highway Administration, and The Real Estate Council, all working to pump the brakes on traffic-related fatalities.
The celebration, taking place at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 5, is more than just a party. It's a statement of intent. Nestled at Forest Theater, located at 1918 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, the event is as much about the promise of a safer future as it is about the grant itself. As part of this effort, Dallas Area Rapid Transit, along with other agencies, has thrown its weight behind the cause, recognizing the critical need for infrastructure that prioritizes human lives over hurried commutes.
