A situation that could have ended in tragedy was averted in North Harris County after authorities responded to reports of a 5-year-old boy, dressed only in boxers, running through traffic. The alarming incident unfolded in the 4900 block of Spring Cypress Road, prompting a welfare check call to local law enforcement.
According to Constable Mark Herman of the Precinct 4 Constable's Office, a concerned member of the community witnessed the young child, who appeared to be non-verbal, dangerously sprinting facing oncoming vehicles. The prompt action of the deputies ensured the child was safely transported to a local hospital for evaluation, FOX26 Houston reported.
An update from the Precinct 4 Constable's Office's Facebook page clarified that upon arrival at the scene, deputies were able to quickly locate the toddler. The post further stated, "The child appears to be non-verbal," stressing the potential difficulty in communication the officers might have faced during the rescue. After securing the child, the authorities were able to identify and initiate contact with the parents, as stated in the official social media update.
