A tragic pedestrian accident unfolded in downtown Houston, claiming the life of a 64-year-old woman. Houston police reported the incident occurred around 12:25 p.m. on Monday at 900 Milam Street.
The woman, whose name is being withheld until verified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, was lawfully crossing the street in the crosswalk when a white Chevrolet Silverado truck hit her. The truck was making a left turn onto Milam from Walker Street. Following the impact, paramedics rushed the pedestrian to the Memorial Hermann Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Sergeant P. Lee and Officer N. Luu of the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division are leading the inquiry into the crash. According to their preliminary investigation, the 58-year-old male driver of the pickup failed to yield the right of way. Despite the catastrophic outcome of his action, he was not found to be impaired and was subsequently released after questioning.
